Russell Andrew Pointer, Jr.
Our Lead Servant's Education

Russell Andrew Pointer, Jr. is the founding pastor of Reform Nash, but above all possible titles, he identifies as the lead servant and spiritual advisor. In 2016, Russell graduated from Morehouse College with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology, Sport Studies, and Physical Education and a minor in Leadership Studies. In 2018, he graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a Master of Science in Recreation and Sport Management with a concentration in Sport Management and Fundraising. He also graduated with a Masters of Theological Studies from Vanderbilt Divinity School in May 2020. He is currently a Doctor of Ministry student at the Boston University School of Theology. His primary interests are Black church studies, economic justice, and creating faith communities.

Our Lead Servant's Experience

Russell began his music ministry at the age of 11, and he began preaching at 19 years old under the tutelage of his father, Dr. Russell Pointer, Sr. Before helping launch Reformation Church Nashville, Russell was the Assistant Minister at Minneapolis Central Church of Christ for 2 years. He wants to be remembered not only the sermons that he preached, but also he wants to see his words lived as a means to pursue love, justice, and equality on Earth.
